40 Years of the set Foundation – Working together for a future without animal testing
For 40 years now, the set Foundation has been working with great dedication to reduce and, in the long term, replace animal testing. This anniversary is not only a cause for celebration, but also a time to look back, to pay tribute, and to look ahead to what lies ahead.
An interdisciplinary approach that makes a difference
What has always set the set Foundation apart is its interdisciplinary nature. Representatives from industry, animal welfare organisations, the scientific community and public authorities work together here towards a single goal: the development and establishment of innovative methods that can replace or complement animal testing. This open dialogue between different perspectives is one of the Foundation’s greatest strengths – and a key reason for its sustained success.
Promoting innovation and progress
Over the past four decades, the Foundation has supported more than 80 projects that are breaking new ground in research. From modern cell culture methods and computer-based models to complex in vitro systems – the approaches funded play a key role in combining scientific progress with ethical responsibility.
The focus is not only on the development of new methods, but also on their practical implementation and integration into research and regulation. The SET Foundation sees itself as a bridge between basic research, application and public discourse.
Responsibility and Vision
The commitment to reducing animal testing is more important today than ever before. Scientific excellence and ethical awareness go hand in hand – and this is precisely where the Foundation’s work comes in. With its clear vision and long-standing commitment, it helps to ensure that alternative methods are increasingly recognised and adopted.
Looking to the future
Even after 40 years, the set Foundation’s mission remains highly relevant. New technologies such as artificial intelligence, organ-on-a-chip systems and personalised medicine open up exciting possibilities for further reducing or completely replacing animal testing.
The Foundation will continue to support projects that boldly break new ground and further strengthen dialogue between the relevant stakeholders.
Thank you for 40 years of commitment
This anniversary is owed above all to the many dedicated people who have shaped the work of the SET Foundation over the years. Their commitment, their ideas and their conviction have made the Foundation what it is today.
We thank all our partners, sponsors and supporters – and look forward to taking the next steps together towards a future free from animal testing.
